We're proud to introduce our new wheat-free line of treats called Mutt Mash, available in two flavors: Peanut Butter + a Touch of Honey and Sweet Potato + a Touch of Maple Syrup. In addition to beer grain, we make the treats with an organic barley flour and many NC-sourced ingredients such as sweet potato puree, honey and cage-free eggs.
You may be thinking, "What in the world does Mutt Mash mean, Barley?" You see, beer brewers steep grain (in our case 100% barley) in water through a process called “mashing.” They then take the water to make beer, leaving behind the delicious barley (spent grain). We take the spent grain and turn it into dog treats.
As you know, my humans adopted another rescue dog last year – a Border Collie mix named Hops. He’s smaller than I am but adds quite a bit of flavor to the team, much like the small amount of maple syrup we add to these treats.
That’s why we call these dog treats Mutt Mash. “Mutt” in honor of the two rescue mutts who are the real brains behind this operation. “Mash” for the process in which we get the grain.
